More than 50 personalities from the territory at the inauguration of the Ambassador Program of Lugano Convention & Exhibition
Yesterday evening, March 24, 2025, at the suggestive Villa Ciani, the official inauguration of the Ambassador Program promoted by Lugano Convention & Exhibition was held. This is a strategic initiative of the City of Lugano aimed at strengthening the city's position as a destination of excellence for events and congresses.
The inaugural event was attended by more than 50 prominent personalities from the region, including university professors, doctors, researchers, CEOs and members of professional associations: figures who already play or may in the future play the role of Ambassadors for Lugano.
The program was presented with institutional greetings by the Hon. Roberto Badaracco, Deputy Mayor and Head of culture, sports and events department for the City of Lugano, and enriched by the testimony of Prof. Franco Cavalli, President of ICML and Bios+. Lugano's Ambassador per excellence recounted his experience in organising the ICML (International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma) congress, hosted in Lugano since 1981.
The Ambassador Program represents much more than technical support for the acquisition of events: it is in fact a concrete invitation to collaboration between all the area's stakeholders: from the academic world (SUPSI, USI and Franklin University) to the healthcare, economic and entrepreneurial sector.
Monica Besomi, Business Development Manager of Lugano Convention & Exhibition stressed that ‘ it’s very important to have a dialogue and find synergies in order to attract new congresses and international appointments that generate value, prestige and also an important economic impact for the entire destination’.
The Ambassador Program is a first at the Ticino level and will continue over the years to offer appointments for exchange and deepen specific topics. At the same time, it will also offer the Ambassadors structured support: from feasibility analysis to the preparation of bids, to coordination with institutions and the organisation of site inspections, providing tools, contacts and know-how to bring national and international events to Lugano.
With the opening, an important milestone has thus been laid for the continued development of the congress sector in Lugano and its surroundings.
