What exactly does a PCO (Professional Congress Organiser) like yours do and what services does it offer?
Amiconi Consulting SA professionally and comprehensively manages every stage of the organisation of conferences, meetings and events, especially in the medical, banking and insurance sectors. In addition to these services, we also manage individual and group transfers, hotel reservations and, on request, the coordination of incentive trips and corporate parties. In short, we position ourselves as an “all-inclusive” partner for event organisers, offering logistical, creative and operational expertise so that the client can focus on the content while the PCO takes care of the overall experience.
How many events do you organise each year?
In 2025, our team of six people managed around 30 events of various types and origins: we work on the local, national and international markets, guaranteeing high quality standards. Some events are planned well in advance, and we are already working on projects for 2028 and beyond.
What is the situation today in Lugano and Ticino in such a competitive environment?
Lugano remains the most important conference centre in Ticino, even though the Palazzo dei Congressi is now 50 years old. Despite its age, it is still a functional and centrally located venue, just a short walk from many hotels. Whether for events with 100 or 2,000 participants, the venue is versatile and offers effective and competitive solutions. However, we are active throughout the Canton of Ticino, which we consider to be a single, well-connected hub: in 30 minutes, you can reach major cities such as Locarno and Bellinzona, integrating spaces, facilities and hotels. This model has already been in place for years in events such as the ICML – International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma, which has brought thousands of participants to Ticino.
What role does collaboration between local authorities and operators play?
A fundamental one. It is necessary to create solid networks and supply chains. The Ticino Convention Bureau and Lugano Convention & Exhibition as a conference venue are important pieces of the puzzle for our sector. A small number of professionals who are competent and quick to respond can make all the difference when choosing a conference destination. With planning and investment, we still have a lot of potential for growth. In fact, after the pandemic, the MICE sector has rebounded with great momentum, exceeding pre-Covid numbers and refocusing on the importance of physical presence at events.
