Since last week, the return to lake navigation of motor ship Ceresio class 1931 is making news! But what’s so special about a boat that started sailing our lake's waters 90 years ago? Simply the fact that it is the first fully-electric fast-charging motor ship in Switzerland! If you don’t believe us, take a look at this short video.
This is an important first step of the project called venti35 (twenty-35) - sponsored and supported by the City of Lugano - which aims at the green development of the lacual navigation, contributing to reduce the negative impact of the climate change. Actually, the "venti35" Project, promotes the electrification of the entire fleet of the SNL - Società Navigazione Lago di Lugano (Nautical Society of the Lake of Lugano) as well as the Ticinese lakes within 2035, responding in this way to the demands of sustainable and integrated mobility, at zero emissions, in line with the federal climate-altering emissions targets, scheduled by 2050.
After the start of this project on the Ticino lakes, the Società Navigazione Lago di Lugano intends to promote electrification at federal level in order to support other Swiss lakes interested in developing sustainable navigation. For this purpose the newly established association for the promotion of the Swiss lakes, named "Green Swiss Lakes" was presented.
The venti35 project is a further element that is added to the eco-sustainable mobility plan of our region and will certainly give one more reason to event and congress organizers to include Lugano among the leading destinations in sustainable development.
