Representatives of Swiss and Ukrainian companies met at the Palazzo dei Congressi to discuss the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.

Dialogue and projects for Ukraine's economic future

On 11 and 12 May, Lugano became the hub of European dialogue on Ukraine's economic future by hosting the first Lugano Business Forum. The event brought together representatives of companies - mainly Swiss and Ukrainian - associations, organisations, government officials and opinion leaders. The Forum, held at the Palazzo dei Congressi and also sponsored by the City of Lugano, was promoted by the Ukrainian Swiss Business Association (USBA), the Swiss Union of Arts and Crafts (USAM) and the Ukraine Blockchain Association (UBA). The work focused on pressing issues concerning the participation of the private sector in concrete projects for Ukraine's post-conflict recovery.

From the Lugano Protocol to concrete collaboration

During the two-day event, synergies and collaborations in support of Ukraine's reconstruction process were discussed: from energy, environmental and medical technology, agriculture and construction, to information technology and new digital technologies related to the world of finance.

Mayor Michele Foletti emphasised the importance of the event, describing it as the natural continuation of the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2022 (URC), which resulted in the Lugano Declaration. "By hosting the URC, we have chosen to commit ourselves to a responsible policy to protect international stability," said Foletti. "I wish to express the unconditional solidarity of the City of Lugano with the Ukrainian people who are fighting heroically in defence of the values of freedom and justice".
