From kindergarten to conference venue

After more than two years of restructuring work - both on the exterior and, mainly, on the interior - the historic building known as the ' Ex-Asilo Ciani' will reopen its doors next January. A 130-year-old building, originally intended as a 'charity kindergarten' by the philanthropist Filippo Ciani, one of the two brothers who owned both the land and the Villa of the same name adjacent to the Palazzo dei Congressi. Nearly twenty years ago, the Municipality was aware that the spaces of the Ex-Asilo, used for events and congresses, were in need of a tune-up. The initial project went through a series of rejections, until, in recent times, the decision to carry out a more conservative restoration was taken, although with a far-reaching modernisation: from work on the acoustics to the plant engineering, from heating to air conditioning in all the rooms.

The part of the renovation that posed the greatest challenge was the skylight, which was in very poor condition and had major deficiencies. It is a very special historical object, made of iron (not steel) in 1907.
Thanks to the renovated technical part and the modularity of some interior spaces, the former kindergarten is already becoming a popular location for events of different kinds.
