Commodity trading

Lugano plays a prominent role in the field of commodity trading, an area in which Switzerland is among the main world centres. Thanks to high-level skills in many services, such as banks, insurance companies, forwarders and shipping companies, the Lugano region boasts the presence of almost 100 companies that employ more than 1,500 people. Alongside the growing trade in coffee, sugar and cocoa ("soft commodities") as well as energy, steel and coal are listed as the historically and most treated commodities in Lugano.

Ideal for events, also thanks to its geographical position (Lugano stands halfway between the port of Genoa and the city of Zurich, with favourable access to both the Mediterranean markets and the northern countries) and internationality.
